The Resurgence of Downtowns Webinar and Community Discussion

Upcoming webinar in the community boardroom (first floor City Hall) Wednesday, July 19th from 8:30 AM - 10:00 AM on the “Resurgence of Downtowns”. Following the webinar we will have a roundtable discussion on how these practices can relate to Merritt. Refreshments will be provided by the City of Merritt.

Over the years we’ve spent a considerable amount of time and effort helping make downtowns great – again. In this photographic-rich workshop, you’ll learn:

- The seven reasons why downtowns are back and are absolutely critical to your long-term success as a sustainable community

- What it takes to bring millennials (and even GenXers) back home (downtown plays a key role)

- The future of downtowns (it’s a whole new game)

- Why downtowns are a worthy investment (not an expense)

- What it takes to bring downtowns back, or make them the community a showcase

This is a terrific primer to help encourage city and other government leaders to understand that downtowns are worth investing in. It’s also a great way to foster public-private partnerships (it takes both) to create an outstanding downtown that will benefit local residents, businesses, and your visitors.

(Financial Literacy Workshop for Women)

Community Futures Nicola Valley in joint partnership with Business Development Bank of Canada and Chartered Professional Accountants Canada invites all women business owners or women who are thinking of becoming entrepreneurs to attend this free Financial Literacy Program Workshop. This session will explain to the business owner the financial and non-financial information a bank or investor uses to evaluate a loan/investment request and will explain the steps necessary to prepare a business for presentation to a lender and/or investors.

 Why will I need additional financing and capital?

 What are the typical sources for financing?

 What are the advantages and disadvantages?

 Why do I need an investment plan & how do I create one?

 How are the lenders and investors different?

 What are leverage ratios and how should I use them?

 How do leverage ratios vary between business types?

 How do lenders look at my business?
