Jo-Anne Hales is a professional agrologist and the Environmental Specialist for the Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc. She is also completing a Master of Science degree in Environmental Science at Thompson Rivers University studying the Great Basin Spadefoot (an amphibian species at risk) on the New Gold – New Afton Mine site. Come and hear about these charismatic little critters. Her talk was postponed in May 2017 due to the floods – catch it in 2018.

Nicola Valley Community Gardens Annual General Meeting and Seed Swap

The Nicola Valley Community Gardens will be hosting their AGM on March 21st at the Merritt Library 6pm - 8pm and will be followed by a seed swap opportunity for all those in attendance. All members are encouraged to attend but you do not have to have a plot to be invited everyone is welcome.

Do you love to garden? Missing a spot at your home or do not have enough space? Join us at our local community garden behind the hospital. Better yet sign up with a friend so you have a watering buddy! Plots are reasonably priced and great fun for all ages but spots are limited and payment is required to guarantee your spot. March 21st will be the last day retuning members are guaranteed there plot before we open it up to our waitlist if you are interested in putting your name forward please email This email address is being protected from spambots. Wyatt's World- Wyatt Collins with Guests Opening Reception

Wyatt is a 20-year-old aspiring artist who has shown his creative talents since an early age. He is Nlaka’pamux from the Nicola Valley.  Wyatt paints with a clear focus that allows him to show emotion through his uninhibited brushwork. This show displays some of his works from the past year exploring large-scale media, use of vibrant color and adventurous application methods.

Don is a well-known ecologist who has worked on the roles that fire (accidental and intentional) has played in shaping our environment over the past centuries. How did Indigenous people work with fire before the arrival of Europeans? Why was 2017 such a bad year for wildfires? Don has explanations for these and many other questions about wildfires in our area. Not to be missed.

Home Routes Concert- Rugged Little Thing

Mark your calendars! As part of the next Home Routes concert series, we are very excited to have Saskatoon's bluegrass folk duo, Rugged Little Thing put on a show next week on Tuesday March 6th! Their performance will take place at the Country Music Hall of Fame. The Nicola Valley Community Arts Council is graciously sponsoring the event. Nicola Valley Film Society presents “LAND OF MINE”  Rated 14A  on Monday February 19th at 7:00 pm at the NVIT LECTURE THEATRE.  Tickets are $5.00 at the Door and Memberships for the 6 films in the 2017/18 season are $2.00.   Parking is FREE and there is no food or drink allowed in the theatre. 

Land of Mine is a moving and tense WWII drama based upon the true story of young German POW’s who have to detect and disarm German landmines along the Danish seaside beaches .  It has received many awards and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Film  in 2017.  Director: Martin Zandvliet Cast:  Louis Hofmann, Roland Moller, Mikkel Boe Foisgaard Country:  Denmark/Germany 2015   Language:  Danish with English Subtitles
