To promote local activities in Merritt and the Nicola Valley, showcase the main themes of 'Things to Do, Places to Stay, and Where to Eat' and to offer one location where both visitors and locals can go for community information.

Planning Ahead

Tourism is an important sector in Merritt, which builds towards a more diverse economy for the overall Nicola Valley. Tourism-related projects consist of 20% of the Economic Development Action Plan, enhancing the sector and providing on brand tourism products is key. The Economic Development Action Plan is listed below as well, providing an additional resource into the long term tourism plan in Merritt. The 2013/2014 Tourism Plan was prepared for Merritt and the Nicola Valley through the Community Tourism Foundations program of Destination BC.

The Tourism and Economic Development Standing Committee

The purposes of the committee is to provide timely and strategic advice to Council on matters pertaining to economic development, investment and business attraction, and longer-term economic stability; support the Economic Development Officer and other City staff involved in such issues in the development of recommendations regarding Economic Development Strategic Plan; assist in preparing multi-year or annual updates to the Economic Development Strategic Plan while endorsing appropriate development, and bringing recommendations regarding such updates and endorsements to Council and to champion the Official Community Plan and Integrated Growth Strategy as they relate to economic sustainability and capacity building within the City of Merritt.
