Merritt Secondary School special education team hoping to provide students the clothing they need to stay warm this winter.

The first annual 'Schools Helping Schools' winter wear drive is happening tomorrow morning at MSS.

Special education assistant Tracey Even is asking community members to drop off new and gently used winter wear items at the school tomorrow morning, which will then go to local elementary school students in need.

"Every year we have kids that come to school in the winter months wearing only little sweaters, or don't have proper boots. So there is a definite need in the community. It's also way our older kids can support the littler kids in the district."

Items can be dropped off tomorrow morning from 7am to 9 am at the MSS round about, and those that donate will receive a coffee and treat for participating.

Even says they are particularly looking for clothing in youth sizes, from extra small to extra large.

Nicola Naturalist Society meeting -

Our guest speaker for this week's Nicola Naturalist Society meeting has unfortunately had to cancel at short notice, for health reasons.

We will still be holding our Thursday 16th meeting at NVIT starting at 7 PM.

Our program will instead feature the award-winning documentary about eider ducks in the Canadian arctic and the people that rely on them: People of a Feather

This excellent movie has won numerous awards and has some incredible footage of ducks underwater and in flight, with a very relevant modern twist.

For more details check the website    http://www.peopleofafeather.com/

Because this movie runs for 90 minutes we will be having an abbreviated information session to start our meeting, but we will still have a raffle.

Thursday February 16th, 7 PM at NVIT Lecture Theatre. All welcome - membership or donation.
