Students at Merritt Secondary School are looking to keep used batteries out of landfills, and help developing countries at the same time.
The 'We Care Crew' is starting a battery drive today.
Member Courtney Christy says every AA battery contains the amount of zinc needed to save the lives of six children in a developing country.
"All the zinc is recycled, and then donated to developing countries in need."
Drop boxes for batteries will be spread out through out the city, including at Merritt Secondary School, the Community Policing Office, and the Nicola Valley Aquatic Centre.
Batteries collected will be taken by members of the 'We Care Crew' to Vancouver next week, when they attend 'We Day'.
